Iroko: Sacred Roots
An exploration of the living traditions of West Africa, as shared by elders and culture-bearers of sacred indigenous spiritual practices.
The film’s director, Aya Iworiosa, who was raised between worlds yet fully belonging to none, seeks meaning by reconnecting with her roots, called home by the Iroko tree.
Through encounters with ancestral initiation rites, the film bears witness to a process of return—one not only to place, but to lineage, community, and inner knowing.
The film sends a call to the diaspora, and to all people of the Western world, to remember who we are, and the values of living in harmony with nature, spirit and community.
